Golani Scope Mounts Question

Postby SadWhaleFamily » Mon Oct 11, 2010 6:23 pm

For all you lovely Golani Sporter owners out there (real Galil owners may not apply):

I am looking to get a scope/optics mounting option for my Golani. If it helps, mine is a GAL-serial gun. I have heard that the Golani dovetail for scope mounts isn't exactly IMI-spec, so maybe some mounts won't work?

Is this quick-release mount: http://akpartskits.com/cart/index.php?m ... cts_id=400
or this 30mm-ring mount: http://akpartskits.com/cart/index.php?m ... cts_id=397
compatible with the Golani?

Admins/mods if this is not the right place, please tell me so or move it, and accept my sincere apologies. :)

The dove tail on the golanis was not IMI from what I have been told. It may be hit or miss. The quick release was even a question mark depending on what year your Galil was. I am not a fan of those. If you can swing it go with a rail system. That will let you mount just about anything you want.

The second link is 24hourtactical. He (John) is a really good guy to deal with. It costs a boat load more, but in this case you do get what you pay for. That being said, I know people that are plenty happy with the UTG system.

I'm not looking for a railed handguard system, as I want to put a wooden handguard on my Galil (pretty much just for aesthetic reasons, honestly, but it is my preference). My rear sight is canted on its welds in the dustcover so I can't really use it, and so my next best option was to get a side-mounted optic.

Dustcover assemblies with a sight base costs more than that.

I put some wood furniture on mime for the same reason. The stuff made by Old South Gun Wood is really nice; here is their link: http://www.oldsouthgunwood.com/Old-South-Galil-Page.html

And a pick of mine with beach wooded forends from OSGW:

In that case what do you think of a railed gas tube that will allow for optics & the wood hand guard. I used to have one of these & liked it.

That fits on an AR Golani? The part list says it's for an SAR Galil, but if it'll work on an AR, I'd be all for that.

I used it on an AR Galil, & the length of the tube is 23.5 cm. I'm not sure why they list it for a SAR since they are not even readily available here in the States.

You said you "used to have one". What happened to it?

When I went to the full rail systems I sold it.
